Jam Jar

In this transition, each of us has become future-ready even before we thought of it, similarly, we have also obtained so many options unlatched. When we were kids, we all wanted to become a doctor, someday a lawyer, or maybe run a business or something. Skip to 20 years and you see different career choices right in front of you. The follow-up question is how does one know which career is best suited for them? So, I happened to recently read this book The Defining Decade by Meg Jay- which had a very beautiful case study I’d like to share. It is called the Jam experiment, so they choose a local grocery store to understand one's life choices. So, there were two conditions, one which has six flavors available for tasting, whereas in the second condition it has six plus the eighteen more flavors of jam. Cut to the chase study showed that the twenty-four-flavor table attracted more attention yet resulted in fewer buyers. Shoppers flocked to the exciting array, yet most became overwhelmed...

4 business books you must read

Image
The one most familiar thing that I have heard from my friends is that they wish to read business books but can’t decide which one to start from. Everyone has a different taste and some books may work for you while some may not. So, I thought of recommending you 4 best business books I have read which I found had nuggets of gold and are worth giving it a shot. 1. Ambani and Sons: I have been meaning to find Polyester Prince but it wasn’t available and I came across this book. The book is very catchy and will hold your attention till the end. The way the author has started would already convince you to know what’s further? When Dhirubhai asserted ‘Jealousy is a mark of respect’ I felt it was just impeccable. This book explains the whole evolution of Indian business including the gloomy side of Indian business and politics. You also get an insight of an old school Gujarati family man and a mastermind building a first-class foundation. Later on, this book also explains the dispute b...

It's okay to keep few questions unanswered in life.

There are always unanswered questions which remain in some part of our lives and the curiosity hits us at some point of life. Like should I ask what actually it was? Should I stay or leave? Why does that person makes me feel like that? and which leads you to ask yourself who are you? The intriguing possibilities of self doubt can crunch your heart but in the long run you'd realise it was perfect choice made. Rather than being harsh on yourself and have a closure it's okay to keep it unresolved as naturally you'll get the grounds of why it happened.  There have been occurances, just some paradigm I notice; where I felt to get a closure on certain relations, decisions that didn't work for me, why did someone make me feel in that specific way etc. Of course a person like me would dwell upon the same. However I observed that when I shifted my energy and focus to more significant things in life not only did I elevate and evolve but things started automatically making sense t...

Learn to listen

Listening is often the only thing needed to help someone. In today's world of high technology and stress, genuine and attentive listening has become rare.  A very simple activity of listening when not done leads to unnecessary strain and suffering. World is easy place to live in if you have right person to listen, whom you could endless rant with no guilt what so ever.  Lending a ear to someone is best you could do when that person is at their lowest. Listen to them like you listen to a kid, try to put yourself in their shoes, hear out how one feels, don't analyse the statements and give judgments over the same. Acquire information; listen to understand people and situations before responding over it. Make sure not to mirror back with your problems as it may sound disrespectful. While it may be often difficult for you to listen to that person use your mind make mental notes and be present trust me even these small act can make a huge difference.  Taking everything into ac...

Minimalism

Image
I have always been fond of watching documentaries which carry value. Minimalism is one of those documentaries which I wanted to watch and try using in my life too. Minimalism in simpler terms is living with less. Sounds absurd? Right? Why would someone not want a good lifestyle? Joshua Fields Millburn & Ryan Nicodemus have helped millions of people to lead a meaningful life by their podcasts, books and website. In the documentary they share their journey while launching their new book; answering questions which mainly each of us would have. Let me be clear this is not about degrading your lifestyle but about cutting things which are unnecessary. More like preferring quality life over quantity. Marketing has played such a role in our lives that we tend to buy things in excessive quantities.  Currently the problem seems how we assign our stuff; we tend to give too much meaning to our "things" often taking our health for granted, our relationships, our passions, our personal...

Self Doubt

Image
I get worried about my friend Paul. Past Mistakes have made him learn and grow to a great extent. Some day he pushes himself and there are days where he feels guilty for decisions he is making about his life. It's not only about his academics, past relationships, friendships, or maybe opting for something in his interest but for every decision he is definite about. I think it's pretty natural to feel for someone. Clear depiction of how lousy one feels. Self doubt stops us from moving ahead and we hesitate for commitments we make. Indeed some level of self doubt and worrying is healthy as these doubts rather help us to question of what could be better for us and challenge ourselves as we reflect inward.  However, with all these chronic states of our society it pushes to an extent to focus only on our flaws. It's hard time to see what lies beyond and that's when you find least motivated. It is evident to say that you ought defect in whatever you do. In many ...

Change is the only constant

Image
Everyday is a fresh start, each daylight is different from the other. We face changes in our regular life be it in our schedule, relations, simple weather changes and so on. We have to absorb these changes however the way they are. Considering the situation which we all are going through, and where every second people are fading. Do you ever take a moment to be grateful that you can read this while you are alive? Earlier we couldn't operate as it was a sudden stop to our lives; our brains simply couldn't process that we had shut into our homes. The shock was such that we realized that our social life needed to be held back. More like our fast living life was forced to be on a break. Beauty about human is that we don't settle for anything, we need time but we adapt. One essential thing we realise in such situations is that we have to pull out time for ourselves. I have seen that people have started reacting practically for their health and priorities. Changes aff...

The Ride of a Lifetime

Image
Disney is something we have grown up watching. So, I have been longing to read this book by Robert Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company. If you like reading business books then this is definitely a quality choice to make, so again if you don’t like reading or not aspiring to be CEOs this leadership book can help you in personal life too. These are six takeaways from this book: 1. Leadership : Iger tells why is it vital to create space in daily life to let your thoughts wander your job. While sharing his journey he mentions his relation with Steve Jobs and how he always remembered him and his lessons and one beautiful thing Iger mentions about him is that “How Steve was great weighting all sides of an issue and not allowing negatives drown out positives, particularly for things he wanted to accomplish.” That’s a powerful quality to learn.  2. Innovation: As this happened in an early 2000' due to rapid change in technology, they had to adapt it. Time in time Iger recalls ...
